Oil seal is used to prevent leakage of rotary shaft and shell clearance. It has a flexible lip rim that can rub the shaft or casing to prevent liquid and dirt from lea ept or getting in. Seal selection is based on shaft diameter, bore diameter and width, shaft speed, operating temperature, fluid, pressure difference and operating conditions. Common configurations include one lip, two lips, three lips and four or more lips.
Options for rubber sealing elements or lip materials for oil seals include: NBR, ACM, VMQ, Viton/FKM, EPDM, PTFE. In order to resist wear, the composite durometer (hardness) is usually 70 to 85 coast A
